  • No watermark

Quick answer

To compress a video to a set size, drop it above, choose a target such as 10 MB for Discord, 16 MB for WhatsApp or 25 MB for email, and press Compress. The tool works out the bitrate and keeps the picture as sharp as that size allows. Your video is compressed in your browser and never uploaded.

How to use the video compressor

  1. Add your video
Drop a video file on the box above or tap to choose one. It stays on your device.
  2. Pick a target size
Choose a preset like Discord 10 MB or enter your own size in MB.
  3. Compress and download
The tool sets bitrate and resolution automatically. Download the result when it finishes.

Compress a video to an exact file size

Most video compressors give you a vague quality slider and you only find out the size at the end. This one works the other way round. You choose the size you need, such as 10 MB for Discord, 16 MB for WhatsApp or 25 MB for a Gmail attachment, and the compressor works out everything else. It looks at your video’s length, resolution and frame rate, calculates the right bitrate, and lowers the resolution or frame rate only when that keeps the picture sharper at the target size. Before you start, it shows the output resolution, frame rate and estimated size so there are no surprises.

Built-in size presets

  • Discord (10 MB): the upload limit for free Discord accounts.
  • Discord Nitro Basic (50 MB) and Discord Nitro (500 MB) for paid accounts.
  • WhatsApp (16 MB): the size WhatsApp allows for a normal video message.
  • Gmail attachment (25 MB): the largest file Gmail lets you attach.
  • Custom size: type any size in megabytes for other apps, forms and websites.

The compressor aims slightly below the limit to leave room for small variations, so the file is accepted the first time.

How the compression works

Video size comes down to bitrate multiplied by length. A 2-minute clip at 10 MB has much less data per second than a 20-second clip at the same size, so it needs a lower resolution to stay clear. The compressor re-encodes your video to H.264 MP4, which plays everywhere, and keeps the audio at a sensible bitrate for the size. Higher-resolution videos are scaled down step by step, for example from 4K to 1080p or 720p, and 60 fps videos can drop to 30 fps, because a smaller sharp picture looks better than a large blocky one. If the size you picked is simply too small for the video’s length, the tool tells you the smallest workable size and suggests trimming it first.

Private and fast: nothing is uploaded

Online compressors upload your video to a server, compress it there and make you download it again. With phone videos of hundreds of megabytes that is slow, and your footage sits on someone else’s computer. VideoToolsFlow compresses videos inside your browser using WebCodecs, which uses your device’s own hardware video encoder when available. Your file never leaves your phone or computer, so it is safe for personal videos and work recordings, and big files do not have to travel over your connection. You don’t need an account, no watermark and no limit on how many videos you compress.

How to compress a video

  1. Drop an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV video on the box above, or tap to choose one.
  2. Pick a target size, or enter your own in MB. Check the planned resolution and estimated size.
  3. Press Compress video and download the smaller MP4 when it is done.

Compression time depends on the video length and your device. A one-minute phone clip often takes well under a minute on a recent computer or phone.

Tips for smaller videos that still look good

Does compressing a video reduce quality?

Yes, some detail is always lost when a video is made smaller, but how much depends on the target. Phone cameras record at very high bitrates, so a video can often be shrunk to a quarter of its size with little visible change. Squeezing a long 4K video into 10 MB will look soft, which is why the compressor shows the planned resolution before you start and lets you pick a larger size if needed.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a video to 10 MB for Discord?

Choose the Discord (10 MB) preset, press Compress video and download the result. The compressor calculates the bitrate so the file comes in just under 10 MB.

What format is the compressed video?

An H.264 MP4 file, which plays on every phone, computer and social app.

Why did the compressor lower the resolution?

At small sizes, a lower resolution with enough data per pixel looks sharper than full resolution with too little. The planned resolution is shown before you start.

What if my video is too long for the size I picked?

The tool tells you the smallest workable size. Trim the video or choose a larger size.

Can I compress videos on iPhone or Android?

Yes. Open this page in your phone’s browser and choose a video from your gallery or files.

Are my videos uploaded?

No. Compression happens on your device and the video never leaves it.

Is the video compressor free?

Yes. There is no watermark and no limit, and you don’t need an account.
